Animal Assisted Interventions

Llamas of Circle Home has a multidisciplinary team who offer to the community a health service with a comprehensive approach providing personalized AAI sessions, tours, programs and llama training for AAI, therapeutic and educational purposes. The human animal bond has existed for thousands of years and this relationship is of significant importance for medicine and human health and wellbeing. Llamas are intelligent, social animals used in AAI and therapy to benefit humans’ mental and physical health. We have experienced in adults, children and adolescents with disabilities and within the autism spectrum AAI providing opportunities for motivational, educational, therapeutic and/or recreational benefits to enhance quality of life.

The Ancient Andeans dreamed llamas into existence to communicate at the Soul level as our Speechless Brothers.  We strive to facilitate the interactions between the llamas and the individual to enrich the Llama Experience in AAI. Through greeting, approaching, touching, feeding and leading the llamas the visitor connects with the llama energy.

Llamas appear to have originated from the central plains of North America about 40 million years ago. They migrated to South America about three million years ago during the Great American Interchange. By the end of the last ice age (10,000–12,000 years ago), camelids were extinct in North America. As of 2007, there were over seven million llamas and alpacas in South America. The llama is native to the high puna of the South American Andes. Peru and Bolivia form the heart of this region. We strive to integrate the natural wisdom of the llama with the cultural heritage of this intelligent creature by relating knowledge of the Andean cosmology and the Andean spiritual path.

Study after study has shown that the presence of an animal in a therapy or intervention program reduces stress, lowers blood pressure, and releases happiness and relaxation in the patient. Patients find to be more calming than traditional therapy or intervention, as therapy animals are gentle and nonjudgmental. This is especially important for people who suffer from social anxiety, autism, or other conditions or traumas that prevent them from fully opening up to a human therapist.
